Exploring: The Lavenders

$80

Sunday, June 24th | 10:00 am - 1:00 pm EST

With Amy Anthony

Although lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is called “the mother of oils” there are other species worthy of acquainting yourself with and adding to your toolkit.

This class was created to elevate Lavandula group. This is a chanec to explore the different lavender species (e.g., officinalis, latifolia, lavandin, stoechas) including the same species of Lavandula officinalis grown in a few different locations. You will experience the essential oils of other plants known as “the lavenders” of their group (“lavender tea tree” and “lavender sage”) and briefly explore “the chamomiles,” because they go so well with the lavenders.

Join Amy Anthony in getting to know the plants’ personalities by not only learning about each one's therapeutic benefits, but by also smelling their essential oils, seeing and feeling some of lavender plants and participating in the following activities:

  • Get to know Lavandula angustifolia by sipping on a tisane made from local lavender.
  • Create your own lavender wand from local lavender plants.
  • Design a custom blend using the essential oils featured in the workshop to put into an all-heal-salve made just for the class!

An Overview of Distilling and Aromatic Waters

$80

Multiple Dates Available
Wednesday, July 18th | 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Wednesday, August 15th | 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

With Amy Anthony

By definition, aromatherapists use essential oils obtained via water or steam distillation. Distilling aromatic plant material with water gives us two gifts: an essential oil and a distillate (hydrosol). Hydrosols are the forever changed waters created through the distillation process. You may have heard of and already use rose water or orange blossom water—these are distillates and have been used for centuries for their gentle therapy.

Hydrosols can be made from aromatic and non-aromatic plants. This gives us a bridge between aromatherapy (using aromatics, specifically their essential oils) and herbalism (using aromatic and non-aromatic plants). Incorporating hydrosols into your life further expands your access to phyto-therapy.

Look forward to learning:

  • A high-level overview of the distillation process
  • A brief history of distillation and the aromatic waters
  • Benefits of using hydrosols
  • How to incorporate the hydrosols into your life/practice

Get hands-on!

  • Feel, taste and smell a selection of hydrosols at our “hydrosol bar”
  • Create your own blend of hydrosols from the hydrosol bar to take home with you in a spray bottle.

Leave the workshop feeling refreshed by the plant waters and with an expanded perspective on plant-therapy!

Exploring: Fruits and Flowers of Aromatherapy

$65

Tuesday, July 24th | 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EST

With Amy Anthony

Join Amy Anthony for this evening class in July to consider some of the fruits and flowers of aromatherapy; how many of the flower oils have an affinity for the skin and the heart (i.e., compassion) and how fruits, packed with nourishment and seeds, are often cleansing and purifying. July is an exceptional time to get out of the heat and sip on cooling rose water and relax in a learning environment filled with beautiful aromas!

Look forward to the following experiences during this 2 hour workshop:

  • A tisane experience where we smell, sip and discuss an infusion of flowers made at the beginning of class.

  • Reviewing key properties of fruits and flowers overall.

  • Learning about six select flower and fruit oils through guided olfactory meditations and discussing individual properties of those essential oils.

    • As a bonus, we’ll discuss photo-toxicity!

  • Creating your own aromatic spritzer with select hydrosols and your own blend of the essential oils covered in class!

After you leave the class, you will have built a deeper relationship with some of the aromatic flowers and fruits of aromatherapy so you may understand when it is a good time to call upon them to support you and loved ones.

Exploring: Roots and Seeds of Aromatherapy

$80

Sunday, September 16th | 10:00 am - 1:00 pm EST

With Amy Anthony

As we settle into the fall it is a perfect time to reflect less upon the flowers of spring and summer and more upon the end result of the flowers: seeds! This is also a time of year we are thinking about roots, both in our diet (e.g., carrot, parsnip) and how nature is putting energy back into the ground in preparation for winter. Join us to explore several of the roots and seeds used in aromatherapy. Get ready to experience Angelica, Spikenard, Carrot and Coriander among many other amazing root and seed oils!

Look forward to the following during this 3 hour workshop:

  • Learn about select root and seed oils’ therapeutic benefits and spend time getting to know them through guided and shared olfactory meditations.
  • Sipping on select infusions made of roots and seeds.
  • Each participant will make their own blend of essential oils to add to a nourishing body balm to take-away and enjoy through the upcoming days of autumn and into the winter.

Aromatics: Let's Talk About Sex

$65

Tuesday, December 5th | 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EST

With Amy Anthony

We live in a time of binary distress—where the whole has been torn into parts. This workshop is intended to explore the female/male or yin/yang as a whole and how aromatherapy may support that view.

Plants don’t discriminate. They offer guidance to recipients, no matter their gender, race, nationality, or creed. Aromatic plants, the “less subtle” of the plants, are especially enthusiastic to communicate and share their messages of health and balance to whomever is accepting.

This workshop will explore the following themes:

  • The physiology of sex: sexual development and how it is expressed through shared but varying levels of hormones.
  • The sacredness of sex and sexuality.
  • How sexual function and regulation of reproductive activity is mediated by the nervous and endocrine systems and how aromatics and aromatherapy relate to these processes.
  • An approach to choosing essential oils to support sexual health.

After exploring these topics, you have been empowered to create your own blend of essential oils to use in an aromatic roller-ball applicator that you may use to support your lovely hormones and sexuality.
